Jerome Charyn

 

Jerome Charyn wurde 1937 in New York geboren. Nach seinem Studium - einige Biografien behaupten, er habe auch in Paris studiert; Charyn selbst gibt an, mit 36 Jahren zum ersten Mal im Ausland gewesen zu sein - unterrichtet er Englisch an Schulen und Universitäten. 1980 geht Charyn an die Princeton University und nimmt eine Stelle als Lecturer in Creative Writing an. Heute arbeitet Charyn als Professor für Filmtheorie. 1993 wurde er zum "Chevalier de l'Ordre des Lettres et des Arts" ernannt.

Jerome Charyn ist mitnichten der verhätschelte Sproß reicher Bildungsbürger: "Mein Gespür für die Unterwelt hatte ich in besseren Billiardhallen und bei Straßenbanden in der Bronx erworben. Ich war im Alter von zwölf Jahren so was wie ein Mini-Schutzgelderpresser, aber ich wuchs aus dieser Angelegenheit raus..."

Charyn begann 1973, Kriminalromane zu schreiben - übrigens inspiriert durch einen Roman von Ross MacDonald. Seine Romane gehören zum absolut Besten, was es derzeit auf dem Markt gibt. Er lebt heute in New York und Paris.

Bitte lassen Sie sich nicht verwirren: Rotbuch präsentiert »Blue Eyes« als zweiten Teil der New-York-Saga, obgleich das Buch vor dem vermeintlich ersten Teil »Marilyn the Wild« erschienen ist. Die Chronologie der Bücher entspricht in der Tat nicht der der geschilderten Ereignisse: "Ich war bekümmert über den Tod von Blue Eyes und wollte ihn unbedingt wiederbeleben. Also begann ich Marilyn the Wild, was Manfred Coen aus einer früheren Lebensperiode zurückbrachte." (Jerome Charyn).
